We get this question a lot: “How do I store a motor long-term without risking damage?”
Here are some practical tips to help protect your investment:
✅ Keep it off the floor (raised platforms only)
✅ Use a breathable cover—no plastic wrapping!
✅ Rotate the shaft monthly to keep grease from hardening
✅ Run an insulation resistance test before startup
✅ Apply rust preventative to exposed metal
✅ Use space heaters in humid or cold environments—and keep them energized✅ If it’s been over 12 months, re-grease before startup (check the manual)
📌 Pro tip: Keeping space heaters energized while the motor’s offline helps prevent internal moisture buildup. It’s one of the best things you can do for motor longevity.
While we can’t guarantee how long a motor will last in storage (too many variables—environment, how the motor will be stored, how cautious the customer wants to be, etc), following these best practices goes a long way.
