We often get asked the difference between ATEX Zone 1 Ex d and ATEX Zone 1 Ex de. So how do they differ?

• Ex d (Flameproof) motors are designed to contain internal explosions, preventing ignition in hazardous environments.
• Ex de (Flameproof + Increased Safety) motors combine Ex d protection with an Ex e terminal box, reducing the risk of sparks or excessive heat.

Both are built for hazardous areas, but Ex de adds an extra layer of safety. See the chart below for more information about the differences between the two.
